The trail is a partnership project with the Royal Canadian Air Force, 8 Wing, Osisko Mining/Raise the Arrow, The National Air Force Museum of Canada, The County Museums, Base 31, The Regimental Museum, The South Shore Joint Initiative, The County of Prince Edward, The Municipality of Quinte West, and The City of Belleville.

National Air Force Museum

The National Air Force Museum of Canada is a must-see attraction in the Quinte area. With over 75,000 square feet of display space attached to a sprawling, 16-acre air park, plan to set aside a few hours to truly enjoy this aviation gem. Established in 1984, the NAFMC is dedicated to preserving and telling the history of Canadian military aviation. From the first powered flight on a frozen lake in Nova Scotia, through to today’s humanitarian relief missions, the Museum captures the spirit, the daring and the courage of the Canadians who have, and are currently serving, with the RCAF.

BASE 31

Base31 is a cultural destination on the site of a former 70-acre WWII air training base in Picton, Ontario. Originally built in 1940 for the British Commonwealth Air Training Program and utilized as #31 Bombing & Gunnery School, it participated in the Avro CF-105 Arrow project. Operated as a military base until 1969, the site transitioned into a business park and airport and was purchased by PEC Community Partners in December of 2021. The new ownership group has embarked on an ambitious revitalization program that includes the adaptive re-use of many of the heritage buildings, transformation of the landscape and significant investment in placemaking, public art, programming, site activation and food & beverage.

MARINERS PARK MUSEUM

Do you want to explore the rich maritime history of Prince Edward County? Mariners Park Museum is the place to visit!
But did you know that this area’s maritime history is linked to the
infamous Avro Arrow? Visit to learn more about the incredible Raise the Arrow project, spearheaded by John Burzynski, that sought to discover the Avro Arrow free-flight test models
fired from nearby Point Petre in the mid-1950’s.

MACAULAY HERITAGE PARK

From 1852-1874, Macaulay House was home to Reverend William Macaulay and his second wife, Charlotte Levesconte. Charlotte’s family had emigrated from England when Charlotte was a teenager, leaving her brother, Henry, behind. Henry would later serve on the HMS Erebus as a member of the doomed Franklin Expedition. How does that Expedition connect to the Arrow? Visit Macaulay Heritage Park to learn more.

REGIMENTAL MUSEUM

Open Tuesdays 1:00 - 4:00 PM

During their work to find the free-flight test models, the Raise the Arrow team were often met with many wonderful stories from the community relating to the launch site, the test models, the Arrow, Avro, family members who worked on the project, and connections to the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment who trained out of Camp Picton, now Base 31. At the Regimental museum you can find out more about the affectionately known Hasty P's, who fought in every major engagement Canada has been involved in and won more battle honours than any other Canadian regiment in WWII. The regiment made famous by renowned Canadian author Farley Mowat who served with them and wrote about them in two of his works.
